Growth Policy Update

Sunrise in downtown Great Falls

The City of Great Falls is kicking off the updating process for our Growth Policy Plan! Your voices will be the driving force behind creating our roadmap for the future, shaping decisions and regulations to reflect our shared values and aspirations. Please see below for more information on what the growth policy is, past growth policies, a rough timeline, and how to apply for the steering committee

What is a Growth Policy?

  • A growth policy is a document that provides data and analysis AND how the data and analysis pertain to the existing condition of the community.
  • It is a strategic roadmap, including goals and objectives that are measurable, realistic, and provide residents with tangible results.
  • It should be used every day – Your copy of it should be worn out!
  • It is the PEOPLE’S PLAN!

Past Great Falls Growth Policy Plans

  • The City’s most recent Growth Policy, “City of Great Falls Growth Policy Update 2013 - 2025 Imagine Great Falls” was initiated on December 20th, 2011, and adopted on August 6th, 2013.
  • The effort took approximately 19 ½ months.
  • The update was undertaken using an internal staffing model, meaning no third-party consultant was hired.
  • For the 2024-25 Growth Policy Update, a consultant model will be used. Direct coordination with staff will be included, but the consultant will be performing most of the labor.
  • For more information on other past comprehensive plans, please check out the Comprehensive Planning page.
