How Do I Pay My Fines?
Fines are due in full. If you cannot pay your fine in full, you must see the Judge to set up a payment plan.
If you do not pay your fine according to your time pay agreement the court may:
- Issue a warrant for your arrest.
- Report the total balance owing to collections.
- Request that the Montana Department of Motor Vehicle suspend your privilege to drive.
There are three different payment options available.
The Court does not accept payment in the form of debit and/or credit card.
1. Pay in person at the court window:
- See the hours of operation for window hours.
- The Court accepts cash, personal checks (no 3rd party checks), cashiers checks, money orders and credit card.
*Personal checks not allowed if you have an active warrant.

Court Policies:
- Minimum payments are $50 per month, unless otherwise ordered by the Judge.
- Partial payments are accepted, however they will NOT be applied toward the monthly payment. You must still make the minimum monthly payment amount, in lump sum, to account for the full month in which you are due. Multiple partial payments will not be calculated together to apply to the monthly payment.
- If you cannot afford to pay your fines, you may see the Judge during open court to be setup on a work project. You must be current on your fines to be eligible for a work project, and not owe restitution.
- If you need an extension on your fine payment, you may make the request at the Court window on or before your due date. If it is after the due date, you will have to appear in Open Court.
- The court does NOT mail out monthly statements. It is your responsibility to know your due date and to make your payments on, or before, that date. If you are late, you will get a notice of failure to pay. You must pay your past due amount to get current, otherwise a warrant may be issued, or your balance will be reported to collections.
- If there is a question as to whether a citation or fine is eligible for online payments, and/or to determine if you must appear before the Judge, you may call (406) 771-1380.
- There is a $30 fee on returned checks. If a check is returned, you will not be allowed to pay by check again - CASH ONLY.
- If you choose to pay your citation with the Court, you CANNOT get a deferred prosecution agreement on your charge, if eligible.
