Full-time Employee Benefits
Medical Insurance – The City and the employee both contribute to a portion of the insurance premiums. Employee premiums are $38.74/pay period; employee & spouse premiums are $144.99/pay period; employee & children premiums are $127.59/pay period; employee & family premiums are $200.57/pay period. Premiums are taken biweekly through payroll. Premiums cover medical, dental and vision.
Retirement - mandatory enrollment through Montana Public Employees Retirement Administration. All full-time employees participate in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) except Police and Fire. Employee contributes 7.9% of gross pay to PERS; the City contributes 9.07%. Police take part in the Montana Police Officers Retirement System (MPORS). Employee contributes 9% of gross pay to MPORS; the City contributes 14.41%. Fire participates in the Firefighters Unified Retirement System (FURS). Employee contributes 10.70% of gross pay to FURS; the City contributes 14.36%. Employees in all retirement systems are vested after five years of service. The City’s health insurance contribution of $361.39/pay period is added to gross pay for retirement benefits only - retirement contributions on the $361.39 are paid by the employee and employer, the $361.39 is then deducted from gross pay so it does not affect an employee’s hourly rate of pay.
Pension – The following unions have additional pension plans that the City contributes to; Teamsters, Laborers, Machinist, Operators, Plumbers, and Electricians.
Holidays – 10 days per year, 11 days on election years.
Vacation – employee accrues 4.62 hours per bi-weekly pay period; eligible for use after six months of employment.
Sick Leave – employee accrues 3.70 hours per bi-weekly pay period; eligible for use after 90 days of employment.
Life and Long-term Disability Insurance (full-time, non-union employees only) - employer provides $30,000 of life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance plus long-term disability insurance.
Longevity - union employees only (except Police and Fire) paid once per year in a lump sum in September:
$20/month after 5 years through the 10th year ($240)
$40/month after 11 years through the 15th year ($480)
$60/month after 16 years through the 20th year ($720)
$80/month after 21 years through the 25th year ($960)
$100/month after 26 years ($1200)
