About Us
Great Falls Fire Rescue protects a population of 65,000 people across 25 square miles, which includes 18 contracted fire districts located outside the City limits. We respond to 7,000 calls annually and operate out of 4 stations strategically located throughout the City. Our personnel work a 24 hour schedule within a 4 platoon system.
We are committed to providing a high level of Advanced Life Support care to the community and require all firefighters to have medical training at the minimum level of EMT. Many of our firefighters have advanced or Paramedic levels of training and are all National Registry certified, remain current in Pediatric (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) practices. Since 1998, GFFR has equipped the 4 stations to respond to Advanced Life Support incidents. In the event of a system surge in calls, we have the ability to transport patients with our fully equipped ALS ambulance/rescue unit.
Following Montana State EMS protocols and having local medical direction allows paramedics at GFFR to train and function aggressively to meet the needs of the community. Our Paramedics and EMT's treat a variety of patients with minor health problems and injuries up to high acuity patients with major trauma and cardiac problems.
Within our health care system, GFFR paramedics are heavily involved with stroke studies and continually train on the early recognition of strokes through knowledge and assessment skills. We also work closely with local healthcare facilities on early recognition of STEMI's and train accordingly to deliver aggressive treatment to include transmission of 12 lead telemetry to the ER.
Great Falls Fire Rescue has the capability of transmitting 12 Lead ECG's using Physio-Control Life Pack 15's. King Vision video scopes also aid in placing breathing tubes in someone who is unable to maintain their own airway. These tools along with constant training allow fire fighter paramedics to deliver a high level of pre-hospital care.
