Experience a powerful evening of drama and beauty with music director candidate Daniel Black.
The program features Schumann’s moody Manfred Overture, Morlock’s poignant My Name is Amanda Todd, and Connesson’s vibrant Oboe Concerto “Les Belles Heures” with soloist Dwight Parry. After intermission, the concert concludes with Dvorák’s joyful and melodic Symphony No. 8, a tribute to nature and the vibrant spirit of Bohemia.
Daniel Black is a Montreal-based American conductor and composer. He concluded a highly successful four-year tenure as the Resident Conductor of the Florida Orchestra In 2022. Besides over 150 performances with The Florida Orchestra, Daniel’s guest-conducting engagements have taken him across the United States, Canada, the Ukraine, and Russia. He has conducted world and U.S. premieres, and has also conducted a number of film concerts. For two years, Daniel studied conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia, and speaks Russian and French fluently.
He was the Associate Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra for three years, and has received three Career Assistance Awards from the Solti Foundation, U.S. Daniel was also Composer-in-Residence of the 2014 Southeast Horn Workshop, and a finalist of the 2008 International Prokofiev Composition Competition.
