Hiring Process
Initial Application - Once applications are open for Public Safety Communications Officer/Dispatcher, applicants can submit their applications through NeoGov.com.
Typing Test - Applicants must submit a typing certificate showing they can meet the minimum of 40 Words Per Minute (WPM). Applicants will be requested to bring the results of a current online typing test to the interview.
Interview - Applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview date and time. On the scheduled date, they will meet with the interview panel consisting of the Human Resources Recruiter, the 911 Dispatch Center Manager, and possibly a current 911 Dispatch supervisor. Those that rise to the top of the applicant pool will move forward in the process.
Personal History Statement - Applicants are then invited to complete the Personal History Statement and are requested to complete and return the form within 14 days. The Police Department Recruiter will be the main contact for this part of the process and can assist with questions about the form. The Personal History Statement is a required item for the Background Investigation. Additional documentation will also be required along with the Personal History Statement. A full list of those documents can be found here: Dispatch PHS Required Documents. The applicant’s Personal History Statement is then assigned to a Background Investigator.
Background Investigation- Applicants are subject to an in-depth background investigation conducted by officers of the Great Falls Police Department. The investigation is reviewed by GFPD Command Staff and decisions are made on providing Conditional Offers of Employment.
Psychological Screening- Applicants who have received a Conditional Offer of Employment are then scheduled for a Psychological Screening which consists of testing and meeting with our contracted Psychologist.
Hiring Date Set- Once an applicant has successfully navigated the hiring process they are given an official start date and begin as a member of our team.
