Information Technology (IT)
The Information Technology (IT) Division provides IT services to all City Departments. These services include support for:
- software and hardware
- network
- e-mail and internet access
- web sites
- databases
- phone system
- IT equipment purchasing and consulting
- GIS maps
- address assignment
The City runs on technology ranging from virtual servers to PCs, laptops and handhelds.
The IT staff consists of:
- manager
- 2 network administrators
- 2 systems administrators
- 2 desktop support specialists
- GIS coordinator
- GIS specialist
The functions of IT include:
Core Business Applications
The systems administrators are responsible for maintaining and supporting the City’s core applications: These include:
- public safety software
- fires
- crimes
- etc.
- business applications
- utility billing
- accounting
- payroll
- permitting
- licensing
- website
- etc.
Network/Server Administration
The network administrators maintain:
- the City’s network server hardware;
- user access;
- server applications;
- systems backup
They develop, build, and maintain the City’s networks. They also maintain network security through intrusion detection, virus scanning, content filtering, etc.
Hardware Maintenance and Support
The desktop support specialists:
- build, load, and support all PCs used in City offices
- maintain printers
- are cross trained in server technologies to provide coverage for other team members in emergency situations
GIS Services
GIS Services (also known as the Mapping & Addressing office) is responsible for developing and maintaining the City’s map systems. GIS staff works with other departments to develop and maintain map overlays and maintain geographical applications. Mapping & Addressing also maintains land management information and assigns addresses to properties within the City Limits.
