Dear City Commissioners and Mayor,
Thank you for your service to the Great Falls Community.
I am writing to you with great concern that my vote is being taken away from me with your recent actions to re negotiate the Great Falls Public Library budget because your Safety Levy did not pass.
I voted for the Safety Levy as well as the Great Falls Piblic Library last year. I am deeply sorry that the Safety Levy did not pass, however I feel you are taking away my vote for the Great Falls Public Library. Commissoner Tryon said that you are re negotiationing the 7 mils that have been allocated to the Great Falls Public Library since 2005 and requires no public vote.
How convenient!
All of the gains and support that the Great Falls Public Library has done to improve our community with be axed with your new negotiation desires.
I see what you are doing. Get a committee to say that you need to raid the Great Falls Public Library budget and you will have all you needto justify gutting the Great Falls Public Library budget.
Pitting one city department against another breeds bad blood and bad negotiating. There doesn’t seem to be “Good Faith Negotiating “ with respect to the Great Falls Livrary Board from placing an Anti-Library person on the Great Falls Public Library Board when the majority of commenters and public commenters outweighed your decision to place this person who has no literacy knowledge or even care about literacy in our town. It was just plain spiteful, I see this too.
All the gains of outreach to our community will be stopped and stifled by taking away the Great Falls Livrary 7 mils.
Yes, we need a Safety Levy and it seems to me that the City Commission does NOT want to do any footwork, education or outreach to the community about a new Levy for our great Firefighters, Police, Public Defenders, Judges and everyone associated with our law enforcement and safety, which is what the Great Falls Library DID do. They did extensive research and had the groundwork for a successful levy vote.
You won’t even take the time they did, instead you chose a committee, handpicked some of the most angry people living in Great Falls to serve with some really great local business people,, so that they would say, Gut The Library!
It looks like you have decided that you have no voice responsibility to our community to take the time and effort to share with the community how bad we need the Safety Levy.
Commissioners, your constituents are watching.
I am not part of a “small” group of concerned citizens, we are many. Taking the 7 mils away from the Great Falls Puboic Library is NOT your only choice.
