Street Closure Permits
I am the owner of Bighorn Outdoor Specialists at 206 5th Street South. I would like to request a review of all future permits for the closure of 5th Street this summer. As we are located at the corner of two one ways, and AS 2ND AVE SOUTH IS CLOSED due to construction, any closure of 5th Street significantly impacts accessibility for our business. This is our busiest time of year, and a large portion of our customers are visitors who are approaching from the west (interstate, airport). This afternoon's closure led to multiple customer complaints, several phone calls from frustrated visitors and a significant reduction in sales.
While we support events that draw people to our downtown, we need to think through business access issues created by street closure permits. For example, perhaps we could work to keep the streets open until the latest possible time.
Additionally, as a member of the Great Falls Montana Tourism Board of Directors, I feel that we need to do a better job reporting long-term road closures to the services that guests use to navigate our city, such as Apple Maps and Google Maps.
