Fireworks Ban

Status: Closed

The illegal abuse of private fireworks was even worse this year than usual. I believe we are long past the need to ban private fireworks as most other cities have. The damage to our rights to live quietly is severe, veterans are traumatized and pets suffer. Personal injury and risk of fire increases. Many of our friends do their best to leave town. Making complaints to the police seems futile since enforcement never happens. The fireworks noise usually lasts at least a week in our upper northside neighborhood and goes on into the early hours of the morning. It was heartbreaking to see a sign on a neighbor's lawn pleading for no fireworks because of a veteran with PTSD living there while there was a huge pile of oversize fireworks debris only 2 houses away. I urge the commission to support a total ban on sale and use of private fireworks in Great Falls.

Good Afternoon Gordon -

Your comments were provided to the members of the City Commission last week for their consideration.  There were a few other complaints received about fireworks this year and different suggestions.  Should there be a majority of Commission members that wish to consider an amendment to the current ordinance in place, it would most likely be discussed during Commission initiatives at a public meeting.

Thank you.
