Reference: alley between 4th & 5th avenue south & 29th & 30th street.

I wanted to thank the City of Great Falls for the spectacular job they did excavating dirt from our alley and replacing it with road base on this date.

But after crews left I was quite surprised to find a one-foot drop-off from my driveway apron into the alley. In all it took me two hours with a wheel barrow trying to scavenge enough road base from other parts of the alley and hauling it to my driveway to fill the gap in the cliff between the driveway and the alley.

What was also interesting was to watch as the rain/snow mix fell to see multiple holes left in the new spread of the road base filling up with water. It was simply spread with no rolling to pack it down leaving sort of a quagmire to form. Walking on it was sort of like quicksand.

Job done!
