Invitation to Amateur Radio Field Day, 22-23 Jun 19
Great Falls Commissioners and Department Managers
10 June 2019
Dear Commissioners and Department Managers;
The Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club, would like to extend an invitation for you to meet with the Amateur Radio operators of your community as we participate in the national Field Day event, beginning at noon on Saturday, 22 June and running continuously through noon on Sunday, 23 June at the Cascade County DES Office.
Amateur Radio operators provide a critical public service for our community; during times of disaster, we are able to provide reliable communications when the normal infrastructure is offline. Licensed by the Federal Communications Commission and trained in the art and science of radio communication and basic electronics theory, we own and maintain our own communications equipment and are prohibited by federal law from receiving payment for our services.
ARRL, our national organization, has built strong relationships with several served agencies including FEMA, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and many others. This public service is easily extended during non‐emergency civic events, such as parades, marathons, and street festivals. Here locally, we have established relationships with the National Weather Service, Cascade County Sherriff’s Office, and Disaster and Emergency Services Office to provide emergency support when needed.
Field Day is our chance to show the science, service and skill we can offer to our community. This year we will be featuring the Emergency Communications trailer and a public information display along with our traditional High Frequency radio operations. We look forward to the opportunity to show you our capabilities in person.
Best Regards,
Rod Jackson / Public Affairs Officer, Great Falls Area Amateur Radio Club
