Offender Move

I am curious what to expect as a registered sex offender in Montana. My ex moved there with my children and I am looking to join them in the spring. I will not be living with them but would like to be close enough to see them often and they are in Chester. My offenses (two, convicted during same incarceration, separate incidents, one in a Morrisey hearing for parole and one in court, both misdemeanors) are about 22 years old. I am thinking I will likely bring an RV until I can get established and into something more permanent. For the last 5.5 years I've been working as a Specialist for Allstate Insurance here in Elk Grove, CA. I can supply any information needed for review, just want to know what to expect once the move is made. I;ve never been out of compliance on my registration and was granted the Megans Law relief and removed from the website a few years ago. Any information you can offer would be helpful. Again, I just want to be closer to my kids. Thank You.

Mr. DeTavis, It isn't clear in you message if you intend to live in Chester, MT.  If so, Chester is in Liberty County, MT.  This is approximately 100 miles north of Great Falls, Montana.  Our Agency, Great Falls Police Department has no jurisdiction in Chester, MT.  If you are required to register in the State of California you would likely/probably be required to also register in the State of Montana.  Also, you'd be required under Federal Law to notify whom you currently register with of you pending move.  Here in Great Falls, MT we have a Detective assigned to all registered sex and violent offenders.  What this means is this Detective will verify residency at all times.
