City Of Great Falls
RE: Animal Cruelty

To whom it concerns,

I am one of many concerned Great Falls residents. A business in town is in the wrong with all of these laws.

*Confining the animal in a cruel manner
example: The dogs are being kept in a small fish tank that they have no room to be in. The larger breeds are in also small cages which is making them frantic to public visitors because they are mistreated.

*Food and water sufficient quantity and quality to sustain the animals normal health.
example: They are out of water and it's unknown when/if they are fed. Examples of pictures with dogs ribs showing from malnourishment can be shown on our Facebook page named "Close Jacks Pet Store".

*In cases of immediate, obvious, serious illness or injury, licensed veterinary or other medical care.
example: A small kitten is in need of help right now. It's eye is infected so badly that it can barely open it's eye. There are dead fish laying outside of tanks and the place smells of bacteria.

*The city or town council has power to prohibit and punish cruelty to animals.
~~ If there was someone at their home who treated animals like this they would be punished. Why is a business treated differently?-- I will fight until this place is closed for cruelty.

This is very important. Please follow up with me on this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kendra Ost

Thank you for being concerned enough about these animals to take the time to write in. The unfortunate reality is that Jack's Pet Center has been complained about and investigated many, many times. The owners have always been found to be marginally within current legal guidelines pertaining to sheltering and caring for animals. We continue to monitor the store.

It is not our function to shut down businesses, rather we are tasked with making sure that businesses are in compliance with existing laws, and we have done this. Our Animal Control Officers continue to do unannounced, random walk-throughs to make sure that there are no new issues. If new and specifically different issues come to light, we consider those on a case by case basis. Thank you.  Krista
