Hylande city park

I have lived on the park for 14 yrs. We as hyland town houses assoc and lamplighter condo accoc used to for years split paying for the weeding and feeding of the party but since the city took it over, it has never been the same. We did not get mowed memorial day and was left for the whole week. We now have weeds well over a foot high and grass about to seed itself. I as home owner could be ticketed for this. I am very disappointed that the city would not allow home owners to spare the cost to the city to weed and feed to beautify a park. Since we have been cut off from hiring professional lawn weeding and feeding the park has gone to the weeds. This has also made it harder for our assoc to keep weed from out properties. Having them ignore the park after a holiday makes it look more neglected. It's unfair the city can not be subject to the same rules/laws as home owners.
I'm sure it will be mowed 06/04 but it still doesn't address the weeds. We the assoc had a much better handle on it. I do have pics that I show how bad this is. Please feel free to ask me anything.

Good Morning Becky,

The park maintenance staff cares for 300 acres of conservation lands, 140 acres of undeveloped land and 775 acres of developed land. These areas compose of 57 developed parks, 9 undeveloped parks, 1 compost site, 25 landscaped medians/islands as well as detention pond areas.

We did fertilize the Hylande Heights Park with a granular weed and feed mixture during the first week of May.

The developed areas we mow are divided into a schedule whereby they are mowed on a certain day throughout a weekly schedule of Monday through Friday. Due to the amount of mowing per day, per week the mowing crews need to stay on task.

Hylande Heights Park is one of our 57 developed parks. It is scheduled to be mowed on Mondays. You are correct that the park did not get mowed on Monday, May 28, 2018. Happenstance, Monday was Memorial Day and  a holiday for City employees. Thus, the parks scheduled to get mowed on Monday did not occur. Sorry for any after effects this has caused you as we needed to stay on schedule and did not purposely ignore the park. Once again you are correct that we mowed the park on Monday, June 4th.

Per your suggestions, if your association would like to sponsor the cost of additional lawn care programs of fertilization and weed control please contact myself at Park and Recreation.

Sincerely,

Lonnie Dalke, Parks Manager
