Zoning law changes re MADISON FOOD PARK

I am writing this letter to voice my opposition to the planned Madison Food Park. I believe that this project will have a very negative effect on the community of Great Falls. This plant will have a real effect on the air quality of this town. Having lived in a community in another state where there was a slaughterhouse, I can vouch for the fact that the smell from this facility will pollute the entire city. The planned decomposition lagoons also have the potential for contaminating the water table if it ever leaks. The plan to draw 3.5 million gallons of water a day out of the Madison aquifer will have a very real and negative impact on the water table of the people who live east of Great Falls who depend on wells for their water supply. The increased traffic bringing animals into this facility will also have a very negative effect on traffic in Great Falls. Finally, the land that this plant is proposed to be built on was zoned for agricultural use only. Recently there has been some concern about unusual activity used by the county commissioners to reword the existing law regarding acceptable use of agricultural land. This activity brings into question the whole legitimacy of this project in the first place. I believe that this project should be scrapped for all the reasons presented above.

Thank you for your comments regarding the Proposed Madison Food Park. As you may be aware, the proposed location of this development is located well outside of the city limits. As such the City of Great Falls has no regulatory authority and/or other influence or discretion in the approval process.

The city is interested in what is going on however and will keep monitoring the project to see how it may affect the city and our citizens.

Thanks,

Craig
