Drugged-Driving (DUI-D) Successes
Dear City Council Members, City Manager and City Officials:
FYI - The Canadian Government has concluded that oral fluid drug testing kits can be utilized to successfully detect drivers under the influence of illicit drugs (DUI-D). Concerningly, 31% of positives in Manitoba, Canada, were for drivers under the influence of cocaine.
Perhaps DUI-D programs could help to raise new revenue for local and state governments, similar to alcohol DUI fines, fees and educational programs?
The GHSA and AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety have both recommended drug screening all DUI and DUI-D arrestees as well as all fatally-injured and surviving drivers involved in fatal collisions. For the first time in U.S. history, fatal DUI-D collisions outpaced DUI fatalities, with 43% of fatally-injured drivers testing positive for drugs in comparison to 37% for alcohol.
Best regards,
