Dear Matt, here is the gist of our current policy on tattoos:

The Great Falls Police Department has a policy related to tattoos and body art. Applicants considering employment are to be aware that this policy will have a direct impact on eligibility for hiring.

Tattoos or body art displaying the following are prohibited at all times (covered or uncovered), and will result in not being hired:

  1. racism
  2. sexism or sexually suggestive or explicit
  3. obscenity or profane
  4. gang or drug related
  5. undermining City or department values
  6. political in nature

Hired officers shall cover tattoos on the following body areas while on duty:

  1. below the elbow (including hands and fingers)
  2. on the legs
  3. on the neck
  4. on the head (including face and ears)

All body piercings and intentional (decorative) disfigurements are prohibited from view and shall be covered while the staff member is on duty. There are exceptions for female police officers who may wear pierced earrings of modest design and do not violate more specific department policy.
