Dear Joseph Petrella (dir. Park & Recreation)

First of all thank you for the improvements/upgrades and the general up keep of the River Edge Trail, I as many others enjoy its use regularly.

I want to bring an important safety issue to your attention; about 2 weeks ago I was walking the (River Edge Trail) @ (Bay Drive & Keogh St) when I spotted a tent near the waters edge. It had a Blue Fly covering the top. I reported this to the GTF Police Dept & they promptly responded and removed the person who was living in it. On or about the day after calling the Police Dept. I was walking past this same location, the Blue Fly was gone however the tent was still there w/garbage and Drug paraphernalia leading up to the tent!! I again contacted the GTF Police Dept. this time in person; I was told they done everything the can and the clean up/removal was up to the your dept. They also said this particulate tent was there for 2 years! That's certainly not acceptable!

In closing; Could you (please) remove/clean up this obvious danger from the River Edge Trail. Women & children pass by this site regularly and the drug paraphernalia/needles/garbage and the abandon tent is not only an eye sore, but a safety hazard to all who enjoy the River Edge Trail.

p.s. could we please handle this issue @ this level before the summer season activity starts.

Thank you for your concern with tents along the River's Edge Trail.  Park and Recreation staff has removed all tents and cleaned up the area in question.  Unfortunately this is an on-going problem which we try to stay on top of.  We move them out of one spot and they move to a new spot.
