Incident Update
For Immediate Release
GREAT FALLS, Montana – Yesterday (1/7/25), at approximately 11:15AM, officers were dispatched to Unit 1 of the Countryside Village mobile home park (3805 7th St NE) to investigate report of a male who appeared to be wearing body armor and had allegedly threatened someone with a rifle.
Officers learned the suspect had recently been engaged in threatening behaviors, heightening concern.
At 1:50PM, the Central Montana High Risk Unit, consisting of officers from Great Falls Police Department and deputies from Cascade County Sheriff's Office, was activated to resolve the incident.
At approximately 2:50PM, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Justin Timothy Porter, surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. There were no reported injuries or property damage.
Given the proximity to nearby schools, and the time of day, school bus scheduling was intentionally disrupted to ensure students returning home from school were not put at risk. Additionally, several nearby residents voluntarily evacuated, with police assistance until the incident was resolved.
Porter was charged in Cascade County District Court with the following offenses:
Assault with a Weapon (Felony)
Criminal Endangerment (Felony)
Officers remained on scene until approximately 6:00PM, to complete their investigation. We would like to thank our law enforcement partners, the nearby residents and other members of the community for their cooperation and patience during the incident.
