Park District FEE that is not a tax but will is on our property tax bills
At the March 24, 2017 Neighborhood Council 4 meeting, Patty Reardon (representing City of Great Falls Park and Rec Dept) provided information that the City Commissioners will soon have a public meeting to approve a resolution for a Park District fee. She specifically said, "THIS IS NOT A TAX, BUT IT WILL BE ON YOUR PROPERTY TAX BILL." She went on to say, "THIS IS MOVING VERY FAST EVEN BY GOVERNMENT STANDARDS."
I questioned her about that statement because it appears to be taxation without representation. Taxes must be voted on by the public. She stated that since we vote our City Commissioners into office they have the authority to place fees (taxes) on the public.
So, what's the hurry and why isn't there more information to the public about this TAX?Another question; when is this resolution going to be before the public so we can comment?
