Civic Center Elevator Replacement
Program Description
Civic Center Facilities Department proposes the replacement of the current elevator system with a new installation. The existing elevator is due for replacement and starting to increase service calls over the last year.
Why this matters
Ensuring the functioning of the elevator is vital to maintaining the viability of the Civic Center. The elevator is the sole ADA compliant access point to the second floor of the Civic Center. Additionally, the elevator is invaluable for transporting cumbersome items. In addition to the City Commission Chambers, the Gibson and Missouri rooms host a variety of different events including meetings, meals, and weddings. Any catering, supplies, or equipment brought into the building may utilize the elevator or choose to take a flight of stairs.
How is this eligible?
The United States Department of the Treasury allows local governments that lost revenue (i.e. lost taxes, utility payments, etc.) during the COVID-19 pandemic to use ARPA funds, up to the amount of revenue lost, for government services. This category is extremely discretionary and allows for funds to be used for any service traditionally provided by a government. Treasury’s Final Rule allowed local governments to claim a standard allowance of $10 million in lost revenue. The City of Great Falls (which did not experience financial losses during the pandemic) took this standard allowance and may spend up to $10 million of its total allocation to pay for its traditional government services.
Status Updates
City staff are working with local vendors to receive quotes for the necessary upgrades to the elevator. Work is expected to take place in Spring 2023.
Due to rising costs, this project has been put on hold . If funds are available to complete upgrades, they will be undertaken in 2024
